About an hour away, Point Roberts, a geopolitical oddity, is part of the United States while not physically connected. It's present political status is the result of a geography screw-up and the Oregon Treaty which extended the 49th parallel as the boundary between American and British territory, with neither government capitulating on this tiny tip of Tsawwassen Peninsula.

With time on our hands, a beach walk at Light House Marine Park had it all - almost unlimited visibility of Boundary Bay (Mt Baker can be made out over the Bay on the horizon), easy hiking conditions, with a picnic of panini takeout from Brewster's Fine Food to put a cap on a perfect, almost impromptu outing.
