Nearly bumbleberry epilogue

A scoop of Super Vanilla from Mallard's was just the right a la mode for Victoria's blackberry-blueberry pie tonight, and the perfect postscript dessert to yesterday's blackberry picking outing. Oh, yeah...we'll be out there again this week. Looks like a great crop this year...finally!

The pie crust makes it - from Victoria’s favorite recipe.
Vic prefers to not to chill the dough but to just roll it out on a lightly floured board immediately after mixing:

3¾ cups of all purpose flour
¾ teaspoon salt
¾ cup of shortening
¾ cup of cold, sweet butter
6 tablespoons of orange juice

Enough for a single pie, top and bottom. And the orange juice is the key.

  1. The filling looks amazing! I've never heard of orange juice in a pie crust.. it sound a bit weird! I'll inform my in house baker (Clive). Thanks
