Immersed in holiday tunes

A major influence on Casey's Worlds of course is family, and by major default, music. In the course of any day a continuous soundtrack is going at home, and with "rock-and-roll baby" parents, that version is a mixed bag of rock as well as standards.

It's just assumed that he loves what we love, with iPod playlists and satellite radio stations - at tasteful Boomer decibel levels - going most of the day.

This month's prevailing genre is Holiday tunes and Casey's apparently all right with it because a steady stream of  Christmas classics, from Nutcracker Suite to Mel Torme, has been a backdrop since way before Thanksgiving.

A recent new classic is Midwinter Moon recently released by local artists Craig Olsen and Julianne Marx, our daughter-in-law or "Juels" to Casey and everyone else.

And this week one of Casey's worlds has been immersed in holiday jazz, blues and acoustic music performed by his family, in live performances or just as an accompaniment to just hanging around the house. Midwinter Moon is perfect "for people who don’t necessarily like the mainstream, commercialized or overly-religious traditions, yet still want a meaningful, magical celebration". That's us.

Left to right: Joe, Juels, Bob Paltrow, and Craig

Last night at an accoustic show at Sandalwood Salon and Spa Juels, Craig and the Midwinter Moon group -including Juels' husband, our percussionist son Joe - made a lot of music as part of a downtown Holiday gallery walk.
