On a walk through a nearby greenbelt, Casey, on a quest for rabbits, drew our attention to what promises to be a sign of a bumper crop of Blackberries on local trails. The blooms of this rubus variety seemed to have popped up over night around town, or we've just not been paying attention.
2010 slipped by without enough of our juicy berries to break out our pails and buckets. Who knows why.
Maybe a colder, wetter spring preventing bees from pollinating this urban, organic crop?
Not this year.
One if life's great free treasures are blackberries (I mean the fruit type)! Apple and blackberry crumble is one of my favourite desserts.
