Coffee Strong

By now Casey's shown up in and out of coffee houses and espresso cafes all over the Northwest, but never anyplace like today. Just blocks from a Free Bradley Manning rally near the main gate of Fort Lewis, our guy played service dog at Coffee Strong and hung with Veterans For Peace and IVAW supporters all afternoon.

A throwback to GI coffeehouses of the 60s, Coffee Strong has managed to stay opened during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts and is still serving as an oasis for active duty soldiers and anti-war activists alike, providing not only free Stumptown coffee but also community resource information, concerts, access to the Internet, GI rights and mental health counseling, in an atmosphere totally free of pretense or the constraints of military bearing.
